Why Moving and Then Returning a Log File Results in Reprocessing of That File (296000)

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

SUMMARY

This article explains why Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) reprocesses a monitored log file, even though the file is not changed, after you move the log file to a different directory and then return the log file to its original location.

MORE INFORMATION

When you move a monitored log file out of its directory, MOM treats the log file as if file deletion has occurred. When you return the log file to its original directory location, MOM treats the log file as a new file and processes the log file again. MOM may therefore record duplicate events.

To avoid this situation, do not move a log file while MOM is actively monitoring it.
