How to Use the Create Registry-Based Computer Attribute Wizard (295998)

To gain access to the Create Registry-Based Computer Attributes command, expand the Rules node, expand Advanced, click Computer Attributes, and then right-click Computer Attributes. When you then click Create Registry-Based Computer Attribute, the wizard's interface may seem somewhat confusing, and you could create an attribute that never actually occurs.

The first dialog box that appears after you click Create Registry-Based Computer Attribute is the Registry-Based Attribute Properties - Type dialog box, where you can specify creation of either a registry key or a registry value. Click the appropriate option, and then click Next.

The Registry-Based Attribute Properties - Registry Path dialog box appears. If you know the path to the specific key or value in the registry, enter the path. If you do not know the path, you can locate the path by browsing. You can browse to the key or value either in the local registry or in the registry on a remote computer. Select the registry key or registry value, and then click Next.

In the Registry-Based Attribute Properties - Value dialog box, click either Check registry key for existence or Retrieve key's default value as a string, integer, float, or IP address, and then click Next.

In the Registry-Based Attribute Properties - General dialog box, type information for the attribute in the Name and Description boxes, and then click Finish. The attribute appears at the bottom of the list of attributes in the MOM Console.

To view the properties of the newly created attribute, in the right pane of the MOM Console window, locate and double-click the attribute. The properties dialog box for the attribute has four tabs: General, Type, Registry Path, and Value. You can modify the settings on these tabs. On the General tab, you also can turn off the attribute by clicking to clear the Enable check box.
