MORE INFORMATION

To set up Outlook Express to connect to the Compaq.net e-mail service:
  1. Configure the account:
    1. In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
    2. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click the Mail tab, click Add, and then click Mail. This starts the Internet Connection Wizard.
    3. You are prompted to provide a display name. This display name can be any name, but keep in mind that this name is what a recipient sees when you send an e-mail message. After you type a name, click Next.
    4. You are prompted to provide the e-mail address that you want to use. Click I already have an e-mail address that I would like to use. Type your Compaq.net e-mail address (for example, someone@compaq.net) in the E-mail Address box, and then click Next.
    5. You are prompted to provide the server addresses for the Compaq.net mail servers. In the Incoming Mail Server box, type pop3.compaq.net. In the Outgoing Mail Server box, type smtp.compaq.net. After you type the server addresses, click Next.
    6. You are prompted to provide the account name and password for your Compaq.net account. The account name should automatically default to the first portion of your e-mail address. Type your password, and then click to select the Log On Using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box, because Compaq mail servers use this option. After you type this information, click Next.
    7. At this point, the account is fully created. Click Finish to finish the account creation process.
  2. Configure the connection method. Use one of the following methods, as applicable:
    • To configure the connection method if you connect by using a dial-up connection:
      1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
      2. The Internet Accounts dialog box is displayed. Click the Mail tab.
      3. Click the Compaq.net account, and then click Properties.
      4. Click the Connection tab, and then click the Always connect to this account using check box. In the list, click the compaq.net connection.
    • To configure the connection method if you do not connect to Compaq by using a Compaq dial-up connection (for example, if you connect by using a local area network [LAN], digital subscriber line [DSL], a cable connection, or a different Internet service provider [ISP]) you need to make a change to the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server address. To make this change after the account has been created:
      1. On the Tools menu, Click Accounts.
      2. The Internet Accounts dialog box is displayed. Click the Mail tab.
      3. Click the Compaq.net account, and then click Properties.
      4. Click the Servers tab.
      5. In the Outgoing Mail box, type smtp.compaq.net.
      6. Click the Connection tab.
      7. Click to select the Always connect to this account using check box. In the list, click Local Area Network.
      8. Click OK, and then close the Internet Accounts dialog box.
