Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 Administrator Console Prompts You to Save Changes (295907)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q295907

SYMPTOMS

When you close the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Administrator console (MOM Administrator Console.msc), you may receive the following prompt:

Save console settings to MOM Administrator Console.msc?

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the MOM Administrator console opens in Author mode.

When the MOM Administrator console opens in Author mode, you can access all Microsoft Management Console (MMC) functionality, including the ability to add or remove snap-ins, create new windows, and navigate the console tree. If you use User mode or some other low administrative mode in the MMC, you are not prompted to save the settings.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, change operational modes for the specific MMC snap-in that you are using:
  1. Start the MMC, and then click Console.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click the Console tab, and then click the console mode that you want in the Console Mode box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The available choices for console mode include the following modes:
  • Author mode
  • User mode - full access
  • User Mode - limited access, multiple window
  • User mode - limited access, single window
Each console mode allows progressive levels of administrative access to the MMC snap-in. For more information, view the online help documentation that is included with the MMC.
