MOM Administrators Do Not Receive Notification that SMTP Server Is Not Specified or Is Not Working Properly (295906)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Operations Manager 2000
This article was previously published under Q295906 SYMPTOMS
After you set up event processing rules or alert processing rules in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 to generate notifications by using e-mail messages or pages, you may not receive these notifications, and there may not be any MOM events that indicate any errors in sending the notifications.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if you have selected SMTP as the e-mail transport for MOM 2000, and you either did not specify an SMTP server or the SMTP service is not functioning properly. Under these conditions, an event may not occur to notify you of the inconsistency, and you may not receive notifications if an event were to occur.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, verify that the SMTP settings are correct and that the SMTP service is functioning properly.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
