Incorrectly Applied Processing Rules May Generate Application Log Errors (295899)

SYMPTOMS

Errors may appear in the Application Log of a computer when Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) rules are replicated to agent computers.

CAUSE

This issue can be caused by applying rules to computers that do not have the appropriate services installed or configured.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this issue from occurring, Processing Rule Groups should only be enabled for the appropriate computer groups.

This problem can occur if, for example, you apply Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) rules that monitor FTP activity to computers that are not running IIS. In this example, the following errors may appear in the Application Event Log:
