SMTP E-mail Server Setup Does Not Succeed (295892)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q295892

SYMPTOMS

When you set a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) e-mail server, the server does not appear to be valid.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the graphical user interface (GUI) attempts to insert the e-mail server rather than update it, and the insert does not succeed because of existing duplicate primary key constraints.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, close the GUI, and then open it again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

These symptoms can occur for other mail server types.
