Agent Manager Does Not Recognize Fully Qualified Domain Name (295883)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q295883

SYMPTOMS

After you add a new Managed Computer Rule that specifies the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for a domain that you want to scan, the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Agent Manager does not scan that domain and therefore does not find the computers that are in that domain.

During the initial scan and each day thereafter, at the default 2:05 A.M. scan, the Agent Manager computer records the following error message in the Application Event log:
Event ID: 21171
Source: OnePoint Operations
Event message text:
The Agent Manager was unable to determine the Primary Domain Controller for domain MOMDOM.MICROSOFT.COM while resolving the Managed Computer Rules. This domain will not be processed.

System error code: 2453
System error text: Could not find domain controller for this domain.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the MOM Agent Manager does not recognize FQDNs for domains that are to be scanned.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the NetBIOS name for the domain that you want to scan.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
