SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) can create and use Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider namespace.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because a successful installation of MOM places the Om.mof file in the Drive\Program Files\Microsoft Operations Manager 2000\OnePoint folder, where Drive is the drive in which MOM is installed.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

When the Om.mof file is compiled by Mofcomp.exe, a root\MCS namespace is created in WMI. This extension is used to facilitate alerts by using an alternate MOM provider, specifically WMI.
