SYMPTOMS

You can use the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Administrator Console to create computer groups that may contain invalid characters. When you create the computer group, no error messages are generated; however, when you attempt to view the group memberships, you may receive the following error message:
Failed to retrieve alert level from the database
Unknown error 0x40ED2
Detail -
0x00040ed2: Unknown error code 265938
Error = 0x80040e14,. SQL: 105, 42000
Error = 0x80040e14,. SQL: 170, 42000

The following computer group name is an example of an invalid computer group name:

"ibdomain

In this example, the quotation mark (") is considered the invalid character. This issue also occurs if you use an apostrophe ('). These symptoms occur regardless of character placement.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, rename the computer group so that it does not contain the invalid characters.
