SQL Trace Log Provider Not Working as Expected (295864)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q295864

SYMPTOMS

After you create a Microsoft SQL Server-based trace file provider and set up an Event Collection Rule to collect data from the .trc SQL trace file format, nothing may be collected and reported in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

You may notice that no events are collected and no alerts are generated when you define an Alert On or a Respond To Event processing rule.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. After you create the provider and an event collection rule in MOM, initiate a SQL Trace on the target SQL server and enable the "Write to File" option.
  2. Under the following registry location, a registry entry indicates that MOM has recognized the trace file provider:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mission Critical Software\OnePoint\Configurations\your configuration name\Operations\Agent\Event Providers\Application Log

However, the events from this file are not collected or reported.
