OnePoint Service May Automatically Stop and Restart Without Warning (295830)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q295830

SYMPTOMS

As of July 6, 2001, the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 OnePoint service restarts itself when it detects that it may have a memory leak and may run out of memory. Also, during startup, the service tries to stop all other processes that have the same image name to make sure that the cleanup job was done adequately.

CAUSE

This is a safety mechanism that keeps the MOM installation from becoming unstable. If a handle begins to leak memory, it is detected by the OnePoint service before the system is compromised and the OnePoint service recycles itself to maintain the operational stability of the system environment.

MORE INFORMATION

As of July 6, 2001, the rules state that the Agent OnePoint service bounces at approximately 50,000,000 private bytes (approximately 50 megabytes), and the Data Access - Consolidator - Agent Manager computer OnePoint service bounces at 155,000,000 private bytes (approximately 155 megabytes).
