XADM: Error Message Occurs When You Upgrade an Exchange Server 5.5 Offline Address Book to Exchange 2000 (295736)

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade an Exchange Server 5.5 offline Address Book to Exchange 2000, if there are several Exchange Server 5.5 computers in the organization, you may receive the following error message:
The Component MSExchange Messaging and Collaboration cannot upgrade the action upgrade; the server is an Exchange Server 5.5 Offline Address Book Server for this site. Cannot upgrade an Exchange Server 5.5 offline address book server while there are other Exchange Server 5.5 servers in the site.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the offline Address Book is homed on a Exchange Server 5.5 computer that is not the last Exchange Server 5.5 computer in the site that you upgrade.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Start the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program.
  2. Click Configuration.
  3. Open the properties of the DS Site Configuration object.
  4. Click the offline Address Book tab to see where the offline Address Book is homed.
  5. Move the offline Address Book to another server when you upgrade.
