"An error (920) occurred during the action Save As" error message when you save a Visio 2002 drawing in a graphic file format (295691)

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Microsoft Visio drawing in a graphic file format, you receive the following error message:
An error (920) occurred during the action Save As.

An error occurred. Visio is unable to complete exporting.
If you subsequently use the Save As command, you receive the following error message:
This file is open for modification in another instance of Visio.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you save in one of the following graphic file formats:
  • Computer Graphics Metafile (*.cgm)
  • Encapsulated Postscript File (*.eps)
  • IGES Drawing File Format (*.igs)
  • Macintosh PICT Format (*.pct)
  • Postscript File (*.ps)
  • Zsoft PC Paintbrush Bitmap (*.pcx)
  • Adobe Illustrator (*.ai)
Other conditions that contribute to the error message:
  • The drawing contents are much larger than the drawing page, even if the layer that they are associated with is not currently visible.
  • The drawing has a linked background page that is in a different scale than the foreground page.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, download the newest Service Release for Microsoft Visio 2002.
