OL2000: Attachment Not Visible If Added in Open Event (295682)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q295682

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Outlook object model to programmatically add an attachment in the Open event, the attachment may not be displayed when the item is displayed. However, the file is attached to the item and is displayed after the item is either sent or saved and opened again.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Microsoft Outlook 2002.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, make a change to the form in design mode (for example, move a control, and then move it back). This changes the state of the form and indirectly causes the attachment to be visible when the form is displayed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In the item, if you click Save Attachments on the File menu, the attachment is there and is available to be saved. The attachment is added; the attachment just is not displayed in the user interface.

NOTE: This problem also occurs if you implement the OnOpen event in an Exchange Client Extension.
