Cannot Read Digital Rights Management License from a Portable Device Through a PCMCIA Connection (295580)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Media Player for Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows Media Player for Windows XP Professional
This article was previously published under Q295580 SYMPTOMS
Windows Media Player tries to acquire a license for media that is protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) on portable devices that are connected through a Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) device. Although the license has been transferred to the portable device when the media was transferred, Windows Media Player tries to acquire the license for this content instead of using the license that already exists in the portable device.
CAUSE
The PCMCIA device cannot return the serial number from the portable
device. Because the serial number cannot be read, Windows Media Player is unable to use the license, and must try to acquire a new one.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
