Error 500 and Event ID 14 Messages Occur When You Try to Access Programs (295550)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Mobile Information Server to access a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 or Microsoft Exchange 2000 mailbox, or if you try to access the 'IN' Intranet browse program from a mobile device, you may receive the following error message:

Error 500

The following event ID message may be logged in the application event log in Mobile Information Server:

Event ID: 14
Source: MobiInfo
Description:
Message can not be sent to user username because this user is not enabled for wireless mobility. Ask your system administrator to enable this user.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you attempted to access any of these programs when you are not wireless-enabled or if you were recently wireless-enabled. After you are wireless-enabled, if you immediately attempt to access programs, Mobile Information Server uses the cached information from DSAccess (the process that is used to access Active Directory information) to check if you are wireless-enabled. The initial query that is returned reports that you are not wireless-enabled, and this information is returned to Mobile Information Server from the cache. Therefore, you receive the error message described in the preceding section.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, wait up to five minutes before you attempt to access Mobile Information Server after you are configured as wireless-enabled. If you wait five minutes, the information that Mobile Information Server uses to authenticate users is not retrieved from the DSAccess cache; instead the information is read from Active Directory.

NOTE: If you restart Mobile Information Server, the DSAccess cache is cleared, and the issue is resolved.
