FP2002: Error Message: This Type of Upgrade Is Not Supported (295458)

SYMPTOMS

When you install the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions on a server that has the Microsoft Office 2000 Server Extensions installed, you may see the following message on the Administration Page:

This type of upgrade is not supported.

This message appears in place of the hyperlink to extend or upgrade the site.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the site listed has the Office Server Extensions configured. The FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions are not a supported upgrade to the Office 2000 Server Extensions.

WORKAROUND

To upgrade to the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions, remove the Office Server Extensions before you install the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions. To do this, follow these steps:

Open the Internet Services Manager.
Right-click the site that has the Office Server Extensions, and then click All Tasks on the menu that appears.
In the list of tasks, click Remove Server Extensions. Click OK.
Right-click the site with IIS, and then click All Tasks on the menu that appears. Click Configure Server Extensions 2002.
When the administration web site for the FrontPage Server Extensions appears, select an Administrator for the site and click Submit.

NOTE: When removing the Office Server Extensions, you may be prompted to remove the discussion database. When installing the Office Server Extensions, a SQL server database that holds discussions and subscriptions is created. You do not need to remove this database.
