OFFXP: Office Assistant Is Hidden When You Click Help Topic Suggestion (295365)

SYMPTOMS

When you click one of the Help topics displayed by the Office Assistant, the following behavior may occur:
  • The Office Assistant becomes hidden.
  • When you click the window for the active Office program, the Office Assistant reappears.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you install Microsoft Project 2000 on your computer after you install Microsoft Office XP.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

NOTE: This procedure repairs the problem for the Office XP programs. However, the symptoms are then exhibited in Microsoft Project. If you subsequently repair your Project installation, the symptoms recur in the Office XP programs.
  1. Insert the Office XP CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Click Microsoft Office XP, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. Click Repair Office, and then click Next.
  6. Click Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation, and then click Install.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
