You receive an "Error 25510. Microsoft Office XP requires updated system files not detected on your computer" error message when you run Office XP Setup (295345)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Setup program for Microsoft Office XP, you receive the following error message:
Error 25510. Microsoft Office XP requires updated system files not detected on your computer. You must install the System Files Update prior to installing Office. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ASYCFILT.DLL is missing when we require version 2.40.4277.1
When you click OK, Setup closes.

If you try to run Setup again, the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box for the System Files Update appears. This dialog box includes the options Repair the System Files Update and Uninstall the System Files Update. If you select Repair the System Files Update, the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box for the System Files Update appears again the next time you run Setup for Office. If you select Uninstall the System Files Update, you receive the error message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you run the Office 97 File and Registry Eraser Utility (Eraser97) version 3.0 or earlier and then try to install Microsoft Office XP.

To verify your specific version of the Office 97 File and Registry Eraser Utility, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click For Files or Folders.
  2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type Eraser97.exe and then click Search Now.
  3. Right-click Eraser97.exe. Click Properties on the shortcut menu, and then click the Version tab.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, run Oainst.exe from your Microsoft Office XP CD-ROM to install the Asycfilt.dll file, and then run the Office Setup program again. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert your CD-ROM for Microsoft Office XP. Hold down the SHIFT key to stop Setup from automatically starting, or click Cancel when Setup runs.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer. In Microsoft Windows NT, point to Programs and then to the Accessories folder, and then click Windows Explorer.
  3. Open your CD-ROM drive and navigate to the following folder:

    drive\Files\Osp\1033\IE5\En

  4. Double-click Oainst.exe. This installs the OLE automation update, which includes the file Asycfilt.dll.
  5. Run Office Setup again.

STATUS

This problem was corrected in Office 97 File and Registry Eraser Utility version 4.0.
