OFF2001: Error Type -50 When Printing a PowerPoint Presentation or Word Document (295308)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a presentation from Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Mac, or a document from Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Document File name failed to print on the printer Printer Name because of an error. -50

-or-

There was a printing problem. You may need to print again or adjust your printer settings.
If you open the same PowerPoint 2001 presentation or Word 2001 document in an earlier version of the program, and print it, the presentation or document is printed without error.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if a graphic in the presentation or document contains QuickTime Masking. Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac uses different functionality from earlier versions of Microsoft Office for the Macintosh when printing graphics that contain QuickTime Masking.

NOTE: Masking, a graphical editing functionality, is not available in Microsoft Office.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Service Release 1.
