ACC2002: Access Quits Unexpectedly When You Resize a Control While Holding Down the SHIFT Key (295276)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you try to resize a control on a data access page by using a corner selector while holding down the SHIFT key, and if the control is located in the white space outside of the design grid, you receive the following error message, and then Microsoft Access quits:
Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the details in the error report, the report says that Microsoft Access caused an error in Msaccess.exe.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this error, place controls only within the design grid of a data access page.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the Northwind sample database or the NorthwindCS sample project.
  2. Click Pages under Objects, and then click Create data access page in design view.
  3. Add any control from the toolbar to the data access page, and place the control in the area outside of the design grid.
  4. Try to resize the control by using the corner selector while holding down the SHIFT key. (The SHIFT key is used to keep the x and y coordinates of an image proportional.)

    Note that you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
