ACC2002: Can't Expand Table Node in the Field List of a Data Access Page (295238)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

You are unable to expand one or more table nodes in the field list of a data access page.

CAUSE

You collapsed the main Tables node in the field list after having expanded one or more table nodes under it.

RESOLUTION

Refresh the field list by clicking the Refresh Field List button at the top of the field list.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. CAUTION: If you follow the steps in this example, you modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and follow these steps on a copy of the database.

  2. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  3. On the View menu, point to Database Objects, and then click Pages.
  4. Click New.
  5. In the New Data Access Page dialog box, click Design View, and then click OK.

    NOTE: Click OK if you are prompted that you will not be able to make design changes to the data access page in Microsoft Access 2000.
  6. In the data access page field list, expand the Categories node to view its fields and related tables.
  7. Collapse the Tables node.
  8. Expand the Tables node to view the tables.
Note that you can no longer expand the Categories node to view its fields and related tables.
