This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you export an object to XML format with presentation, the resulting .htm or .asp file does not display any data.

CAUSE

The exported XML data contains embedded schema (XSD).

RESOLUTION

Export the schema (XSD) to an external file when you export XML with presentation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Start Microsoft Access, and then open the Northwind.mdb sample database.
  2. Click the Customers table in the Database window.
  3. On the File menu, click Export.
  4. In the Export Table 'Customers' To dialog box, click XML Documents under Save as type, and then click Export.
  5. In the Export XML dialog box, click to select the Presentation of your data (XSL) check box, and then click Advanced.
  6. On the Schema tab, click Embed schema in exported XML data document, and then click OK.
  7. Open the Customers.htm file that was exported. Note that the resulting page does not display any data.
