ACC2002: It Takes a Long Time for the Oracle 8i Table List to Appear (295186)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to link an Oracle 8i database, it takes a long time for the table list to appear after you enter your logon credentials.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when either of the following conditions is true:
  • You are using the Microsoft for Oracle ODBC driver version 2.573.6526.0

    -or-
  • You are using the Oracle Corporation driver version 8.01.06.00

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, download Microsoft for Oracle driver version 2.573.7326.0. This driver is included with Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 SP1 and later. You can download MDAC 2.6 SP1 from the following Microsoft Web site:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft Oracle ODBC driver.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Start Access 2002.
  2. Create a new Access database.
  3. In the Database window, click Tables under Objects, and then click New.
  4. In the New Table dialog box, click Link Table, and then click OK.
  5. In the Link dialog box, click the arrow in the Files of type list, and then click ODBC Databases.
  6. In the Select Data Source dialog box, select the DSN that you created for your Oracle server, and then click OK.
  7. Enter your user ID and password.

    Note that it takes a long time before the Oracle table list appears.
