SYMPTOMS
When you use the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) from the MSDE2000 folder of the Microsoft Office XP installation CD-ROM, you may find that nothing is installed. This behavior can occur if you are trying to install a default instance of MSDE 2000 on a computer that has a default instance of SQL Server 7.0 already installed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, install a named instance of MSDE 2000. Follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Run box, type Command, and then press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, to install a named instance of MSDE 2000, type the following command, and then press ENTER Drive:\MSDE2000\Setup.exe INSTANCENAME="Name"
