ACC2002: Infinite Loop After You Cancel Demand Install of Vbe6.dll (295171)

SYMPTOMS

After you rename Vbe6.dll and then do one of the following
  • you open a replicated database
  • you open a database under Microsoft Visual Source Safe Control
  • you open a database in which you are creating a data access page
you experience an infinite loop when you try to cancel the demand install of Vbe6.dll.

RESOLUTION

Avoid opening a replicated database, a database under Microsoft Visual Source Safe Control, or a database in which you are creating a data access page after you rename Vbe6.dll.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On a computer that has Microsoft Access 2002 installed, close Microsoft Access.
  2. Rename the file Vbe6.dll.
  3. Start Microsoft Access 2002. Open a replicated database, a database under Microsoft Visual Source Safe Control, or a database in which you are creating a data access page.
  4. Click Cancel when you are prompted to install the Windows Installer. Note that you can click Cancel repeatedly, but that the process is never canceled.
