This article describes how to set the default font in Microsoft Visio.

Microsoft Visio uses the Arial TrueType font by default. You can modify the registry if you want to change the default font to another TrueType font.

To change the default font, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under User settings, click to select the Put all settings in Windows registry check box, and then click OK.
  4. Quit Visio.
  5. Start Visio and then quit Visio again.

    Visio writes its settings to the Windows registry.
  6. Quit all Windows programs.
  7. Click Start, and then click Run.
  8. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  9. In the left pane of Registry Editor, locate and open the following registry key (folder):

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Visio\Application

  10. In the right pane, click to select the DefaultFontName entry.
  11. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  12. In the Edit String dialog box, type a TrueType font name in the Value data box, and then click OK. For example, type Georgia, Tahoma, or Times New Roman.
  13. On the Registry menu, click Exit.

    Registry Editor automatically saves your changes.
  14. Restart the computer.
The next time you start Microsoft Visio, the default font is set to the TrueType font that you specified in step 12.

NOTE: If Arial continues to appear as the default font, the font name specified in step 12 is not correct, or the font is not installed on your system. To check what TrueType fonts are available in Visio, click Text on the Format menu, and examine the Fonts list.
