The client computer components of SharePoint Portal Server are automatically installed when you install Microsoft Office XP.

After you install SharePoint Portal Server, you must install the SharePoint Portal Server client components on client computers. The client components for SharePoint Portal Server are extensions to Microsoft Windows Explorer and Office programs. There is no individual client program. The client extensions integrate SharePoint Portal Server commands with Windows Explorer and Office programs.
For clients that are running any version of Office earlier than Office XP, you must install the SharePoint Portal Server client components on each computer.
To install the client components, run Setup either from the server or from the SharePoint Portal Server CD-ROM.
However, if you have already installed Office XP on the client, the SharePoint Portal Server client extensions are automatically installed on the computer as part of the Office XP installation. You do not have to perform a separate installation of the SharePoint Portal Server client components.
