SYMPTOMS

When you choose to install both the Internet Help component and the Offline Browsing Pack on a Windows NT-based computer with NWLink and the Client Services for Netware during Internet Explorer Setup, your computer begins sending out SAP broadcast packets every 60 seconds. Also, your Windows NT-based computer appears on the Display Servers list on any Novell Server.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To work around this problem, use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) to locate the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\RPC

Add the following value, and then restart your computer:

Value Name: AdvertiseRpcService
Data Type: REG_SZ
String: No

NOTE: A "No" string turns RPC SAP broadcasts off, and a "Yes" string turns RPC SAP broadcasts on.
