INFO: Measurement Units Must Be Explicitly Specified in Font-Size Attribute (294957)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (Programming) 5.5

This article was previously published under Q294957

SUMMARY

When you set a value for the fontSize property or the font-size attribute in a style sheet, you must specify the measurement unit. Otherwise, the appearance of the element differs, depending on the version of Internet Explorer and the version of the operating system.

MORE INFORMATION

According to the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS1) specification, you must specify the measurement unit explicitly for a fontSize property or a font-size attribute. The following code illustrates a font-size declaration that is not valid:
style="font-size:1"

In Internet Explorer version 5.01 or earlier on any platform, and in Internet Explorer version 5.5 on Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Internet Explorer ignores the font-size declaration. On Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP, Internet Explorer 5.5 assumes a default unit of pixels.
