With the Unattend.txt file, you can determine the following information about the Windows XP uninstall files, Backup.cab and Boot.cab:

  • Where you should place the files.
  • Whether or not you should compress the files.

Use the following information in the Unattend.txt file to control the behavior of the Backup.cab and Boot.cab files:
  • [Backup]
    EnableBackup=[Yes/No]

    If EnableBackup is set to No, the uninstall backup file is not created, otherwise it is always created. If the key is not present, the default behavior is to create uninstall backup file.
  • PathForBackup=path

    In this key, path specifies the location where the uninstall backup image is placed. If the key is not specified, the default path is %SystemRoot%:\undo.
  • DisableCompression=[Yes/No/Auto]

    If DisableCompression is set to Yes, the files placed in Backup.cab are not compressed. This will speed up Setup, however, the backup will take up more hard disk space. If the key is set to No or the key is not present, compression is enabled. If the key is set to Auto, compression will be disabled if there is enough disk space left for an uncompressed backup image, otherwise compression will be enabled.
