The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q294849 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to browse the Internet by using Microsoft Internet Explorer on a client computer or on BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5, you may receive the following error message:
The page cannot be displayed.
HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Internet Explorer
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because the default Web site of Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) version 4.0 is running as an isolated process in its own memory space. Also, this behavior can occur if:
- A client uses Internet Explorer that has been configured to use the Web proxy on Proxy Server 2.0.
- Internet Explorer on BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5 is configured to use a proxy server and proxy server packet filtering is enabled.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, reconfigure the default Web site to run in shared memory space:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Proxy Server, and then click Microsoft Management Console.
- Expand the Internet Information Server folder and the Server Name object.
- Right-click Default Web Site, and then click Properties.
- Click the Home Directory tab.
- In the Application Settings area, click to clear the Run in separate memory space (isolated process) check box.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Stop, and then start Default Web Site:
- Right-click Default Web Site, and then click Stop.
- Right-click Default Web Site, and then click Start.
MORE INFORMATION
If packet filtering is disabled on BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5 and Internet Explorer is not configured to use a proxy server, you can use BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5 to browse the Internet.
