The Installation of the Exchange Server 5.5 Data Provider Service May Stop the Network News Transfer Protocol Service (294822)

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Data Provider service (a component of Mobile Information Server), the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service (if installed on the Windows 2000-based server) may stop, and it may not be automatically restarted by Setup when the installation is complete.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, manually restart the NNTP service:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Administrative Tools.
  2. On the menu, click Services.
  3. In the right pane, right-click Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP), and then click Start.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
