FIX: Addition of a Column to an Incrementally Added Article Prior to Snapshot Generation Fails (294783)

SYMPTOMS

After you create a merge publication and its associated articles and the initial snapshot is generated, when you add a new article and attempt to add a new column to the new article, the following error message may occur:
Server: Msg 207, Level 16, State 3, Procedure

Invalid column name 'rowguid'.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can call the sp_MSaddguidindex stored procedure between the calls to the sp_addmergearticle and sp_repladdcolumn stored procedures. The syntax for the sp_MSaddguidindex stored procedure call follows:
sp_MSaddguidindex @publication_name, @table_owner, @table_name
				

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
