The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q294718

SYMPTOMS

When you upgraded your computer (with its multiple monitors) to Windows XP, the monitor settings may have changed. For example, the secondary monitor had been configured to reside to the left of the primary monitor before the upgrade process had occurred. After the upgrade process occurred, the secondary monitor is configured to reside to the right of the primary monitor, which is the default setting.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because the multiple monitor settings are not carried over during an upgrade process. These settings can include the resolution settings, the refresh rate, the color depth, and the monitor positioning settings.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem:
  1. Right-click the desktop and click Properties. The Display Properties dialog box is displayed.
  2. Click the Settings tab and change the display settings.
  3. Click OK. If you are prompted, restart the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
