SYMPTOMS When you send a Microsoft Word 2002 document as an
attachment, you may receive the following error message: Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.

an error signature similar to the error listed at the begining of this
article. CAUSE This problem may occur if you send multiple files to a mail
recipient as attachments, and the file name of the second file that you send is
longer than the file name of the first file. The error message appears when you
try to send a third file as an attachment. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the

WORKAROUND To work around this problem, send the document with the
longer file name before you send the document with the shorter file name.
