SYMPTOMS

When you create a new profile in Outlook 2001 for Mac, you may receive the following error message when you test settings for your new profile:
The profile name you entered is invalid. Enter a different profile name.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the name of your profile is too long.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, shorten your profile name to 64 characters or less.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Although the Profile Name field can accept up to 255 characters, the name of the profile cannot exceed 64 characters. Characters can include the following information:
  • Spaces.
  • Special characters, such as the exclamation mark (!), the asterisk (*), the dollar sign ($), and the comma (,).
  • Numbers.
  • Letters, both uppercase and lowercase.
