OL2001: Appointment Times Are Inconsistent Between Time Zones (294578)

SYMPTOMS

If you use Outlook 2001 for Mac in a Microsoft Exchange Server enterprise where meetings or resources are scheduled with users in certain international time zones, the start and end time details may appear inconsistently between Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows clients.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because certain international time zones do not encode properly.

Time Zone information from the following international locales are encoded properly by Windows:
  • Baghdad (Arabic Standard Time)
  • Brasilia (East South America Standard Time)
  • Santiago (Pacific South America Standard Time)
  • Asuncion (Paraguay Standard Time)
  • Damascus (Syria Standard Time)

Appointment Display Anomalies

From preliminary tests, it was observed that an appointment that is sent from the Arabic Standard Time zone displays the correct time differences, however the following additional behavior was observed:
  • Appointment set on Outlook 2001 for Mac with the clock set in the Arabic Standard Time zone for 3:30-4:00 PM.
  • Appointment viewed with Outlook 2000 in Eastern Time Zone is in the correct position on the Calendar, and the time is 7:30-8:00 AM on the same day.
  • If the appointment is opened, the yellow status box displays that the time is 3:30-4:00 PM Time. The Greenwich mean time (GMT) reference is correct for the Eastern Time Zone.
These discrepancies are in part due to the differences in the way that each operating system handles date and time functions for non-standard DST time zones.
