Fast User Switching Is Not Enabled by Default After Upgrade from Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, or Windows Me to Windows XP (294536)

After you upgrade a computer from Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition to Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Microsoft Windows XP Professional, if you do not set up additional user accounts initially, the Fast User Switching feature is not turned on by default.
If you set up additional user accounts after the upgrade, you cannot switch user accounts unless you manually turn on this feature.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the computer has 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, manually turn on the Fast User Switching feature:
- Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click User Accounts.
- In the User Accounts dialog box, under Pick a task, click Change the way users log on or off.
- Click to select the Use Fast User Switching check box.
