Commerce Server Sites Deployed with NLB Are Not Supported on MSCS Clusters (294454)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commerce Server 2002
  • Microsoft Commerce Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q294454

SUMMARY

Commerce Server sites are not supported on servers that run both Network Load Balancing (NLB) and Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS). Microsoft does not recommend running NLB and MSCS on the same computer.

MORE INFORMATION

Although Commerce Server is supported on MSCS, NLB is the most cost effective way to ensure high-availability for your Commerce sites. Therefore, Microsoft recommends the following configurations for these different aspects of your Commerce site:
  • Servers running Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 that host your Commerce sites should be hosted on NLB.
  • To scale catalog servers, use MSCS for the master catalog database and NLB for slave catalog databases. The master catalog database should then be published to the slave catalog servers.
