SUMMARY

To start Windows Media Encoder from the command line, use the following steps:
  1. Create a WME file.
  2. In Windows Media Encoder, set up a new session with the settings you want, and then click Save As on the File menu. Make sure to note the name of the file and the location where you saved it.
  3. Click Start, and then click Run. Type wmenc.exe <session.wme> /start (where <session.wme> is the name of your configuration file).
You can also use this command in conjunction with Windows Scheduled Tasks to start Windows Media Encoder automatically.

The Windows Media Encoder 9 Series also supports a command line script (Wmcmd.vbs) for encoding. Although you can start the encoder with by using methods listed in the "Summary" section, this script offers more options to control the encoding process.
