CAUSE
This problem can occur if remote procedure call (RPC) connectivity between the Mobile Information Server and the Exchange Server computer is not available. This problem can occur due to a firewall that does not enable all RPC ports to pass thru. For additional information about the ports used by Mobile Information Server, click the article number below

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, if a firewall is present, verify that the correct ports are open as per the article referenced in the "Cause" section of this article. For Exchange Server 5.5 computer access, the following ports must be available:
Standard ports that you must have to access Mobile Information Server: - 3269 - Global Catalog with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
- 80 - Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
- 53 - Domain name system (DNS)
- 389 - Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
- 36, 37 - Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
- 1026 - MSRPC
- 88 - Kerberos (if you use integrated Windows authentication)
Ports that you must have to access Exchange Server 5.5: - 1024 and higher - Dynamic RPC
- 50, 51, UDP 500 - IPSec (Exchange Server 5.5 on Microsoft Windows 2000)
To avoid the need for all ports higher 1024 for Dynamic RPC, Exchange Server 5.5 RPC ports can be statically set. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
