XADM: 5.2.2 NDR Does Not Contain "Mailbox Full" Description (294264)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q294264 SYMPTOMS
If you use Microsoft Outlook to send a message to an external Internet address, you may receive a non-delivery report (NDR) that is similar to the following NDR:
The message reached the recipient's e-mail system, but delivery was refused. Attempt to resend the message. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.
<xxx.xxx.xxx#5.2.2>
CAUSE
This problem occurs because IMAIL uses its own predefined error message when IMAIL converts the native message into Rich Text Format (RTF). The NDR is generated because the recipient mailbox is full. The native NDR message does have the "Mailbox Full" description, but because Exchange 2000 does not regard 5.2.2 as a valid return code, Exchange 2000 uses a default error message, such as the one in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
