PUB2002: Error Message When You Expand Help File Text Links (294256)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2002

This article was previously published under Q294256

SYMPTOMS

When you click hyperlinked text in the Microsoft Publisher 2002 Help files, you may receive the following error message:
Help could not locate this inline definition.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if one or more of the words that have been hyperlinked do not have a corresponding definition file.

For example, a common search topic in Help concerns how to save Publisher files in an earlier version of Publisher (type save as previous version in the What would you like to do? box). The Help file about this topic describes the features that are not retained when you save a Publisher 2002 file as a Microsoft Publisher 2000 or Microsoft Publisher 98 file.

The file includes information about "Web features" for Publisher 2000, which, in turn, includes a reference to "Horizontal rules." The word "rules" is displayed as a hyperlink and should generate a definition when you click it. Instead, you receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.

Additionally, if you click the Show All link, which expands all of the Help topics and definitions, including "rules," you receive the same error message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
