CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you paste the shape or drawing in Microsoft Visio Drawing format.

To work around this behavior, embed shapes and drawings in Enhanced Metafile format. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Visio 2002, and then open your drawing diagram.
  2. Select the shape or shapes that you want to embed. Selection handles around the object indicate that the shape or shapes are selected.

    -or-

If you want to copy the entire drawing, click Copy Drawing on the Edit menu.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
  4. Open the document in which you want to embed the shape or shapes.
  5. In the Paste Special dialog box, click Picture (Enhanced Metafile), and then click OK.
