Visio2002: Text Is Not Displayed in 3-D Shapes When You Open Drawing in Visio 5.0 (293994)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
This article was previously published under Q293994 SYMPTOMS
When you create a Microsoft Visio 2002 drawing diagram under the following conditions
- The drawing contains 3-D shapes.
-and- - The 3-D shapes contain text.
-and- - The drawing is saved as a Visio 5 Drawing (*.vsd) file.
and you attempt to view the drawing in Microsoft Visio 5.0, the text within the 3-D shapes is not displayed as expected.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because, when you add text to a 3-D shape, the text belongs to the group, which, in this case, is the 3-D shape. The text is not displayed in the shape when you open the drawing in Visio 5.0 because the text-in-a-group feature is not available in Visio version 5.0 or earlier.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, follow these steps:
- Start Visio 5.0, and then open the drawing diagram.
- Select the 3-D shape so that the shape's green selection handles appear, and then retype the text in the shape. Repeat this step for each 3-D shape as necessary.
- On the File menu, click Save.
Text is displayed in the shapes the next time that you open the file.
