SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Microsoft Outlook 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Required registry information is missing and this application cannot run. Please rerun setup to correct this problem.
This behavior occurs after Microsoft Visio 2002 is installed and then removed from your computer.

CAUSE

If you remove Visio 2002 from a computer that is running Outlook 2000, registry entries required for Outlook 2000 to run correctly are also removed.

RESOLUTION

To work around to this issue, the Detect and Repair command runs automatically to detect and repair the Outlook installation. If the Detect and Repair command does not start automatically, reinstall Outlook. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the task bar, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Change or Remove Programs.
  3. Under the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Change.
  4. Click Repair Office, click the Reinstall Office option button, and then click Finish.
