Text fonts mapped to PostScript device fonts in Visio 2002 drawings are not printed correctly (293918)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
This article was previously published under Q293918 SYMPTOMS
When you print a Microsoft Visio drawing, some of the fonts that you used in the drawing may not be printed correctly.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you print the drawing to a PostScript printer.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, set the Advanced Options settings for your PostScript printer to download True Type Fonts as Softfonts. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Print, and then click Properties.
- Click the Layout tab. Click Advanced.
- In the Advanced Options dialog box, under True Type Font, click Download as Softfont and then click OK three times to print your drawing.
On Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 only- On the File menu, click Print, and then click Properties.
- Click the Font tab. Click Print as graphic.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.MORE INFORMATION
When you print to a PostScript printer, some of the standard TrueType fonts are mapped by the driver to printer-resident fonts. For example, Arial is mapped to Helvetica, Times New Roman is mapped to Times, and so forth. When you print from Microsoft Visio 2002, the characters that are printed are incorrect whenever text is formatted with a font that is mapped in this manner. If text is formatted with a font that is not mapped to a device font, but is instead converted to a Type 1 font and downloaded, the text is printed correctly.
