XADM: "You Do Not Have Permission to Send the Message on Behalf " Error Message If You Send As Distribution List (293773)

In Microsoft Outlook, if you try to send a message and the From field is populated by a distribution list, you receive the following error message:
You do not have permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user.
You receive this error message although the appropriate account has Send As rights for the distribution list.
CAUSE
The distribution list rights are cached in the Information Store. After you give accounts the correct rights, you have to stop and restart the Information Store service.
RESOLUTION
To grant Send As rights for a distribution list, follow these steps:
- In Exchange Server Administrator program, click Options on the Tools menu. Click the Permissions tab, and then click to select the Show Permissions Page for all objects check box.
- In the Administrator program, open the properties for a distribution list.
- Click the Permissions tab.
- Add the Microsoft Windows NT account or group, and then change the role to "Send As". Click OK to close properties.
- Stop and restart the Information Store service.
To send as the distribution list from the client, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Mail Message to compose a new message.
- In the new mail message, click From Field on the View menu.
The From button is now visible. - Click From.
- Click or type the distribution list that you want to send as, and then click OK.
Complete the message, and then send the message. Any replies to this message are sent to the distribution list.
